Best Chairs for Camping, Festivals, Beaches, and/or Backpacking 2023

A potentially great camping trip can go downhill quickly if comfort levels are low: all it took for me was one rushed packing experience where the chairs were unfortunately left behind to learn that lesson the hard way. Sure, stumps are fine, and if you’re lucky enough you might be able to track down a decent bench or picnic table, but still– camping chairs can really make a huge difference.

Obviously, I’m not the first person to figure that out, and there are a whole lot of camping chairs available to be purchased, especially online… Surely, it won’t surprise you to learn that these chairs drastically range in quality, on several fronts. In this article, I’ve reviewed some fine examples of the best camping chairs I’ve been able to track down.

1. Terralite Portable Camp / Beach Chair

This is a fantastic camping chair that works for all sorts of outdoor activities. I’ve used this for everything from music festivals to music festivals, and its help up. It supports up to 350 pounds, so it can handle the right person sitting on your lap for a while. The TerraGrip feet make it perfect for a day at the beach, as they stay on the surface when you’re sitting in sand or mud.

Camping equipment can be very burdensome and heavy, so the fact that this durable chair manages to be so well built while only weighing two pounds is a bit of a godsend. This lightweight but sturdy nature comes from the fact that it is made from aircraft grade aluminum, which is also rustproof.

This chair sets up quick and easy, and is so simple that even the rookie outdoorsman can figure it out in a matter of seconds. I’ve noticed that a lot of chairs have rather annoying carrying bags, too, but this one is totally low maintenance. Ingeniously, the bag can be attached to the chair with velcro to act as a storage pouch, as well, which is just a very resourceful use of material that has been implemented into the design. The design style is a little unconventional, but it definitely grows on you once you realize the comfort that this chair provides, which is a lot for any chair, let alone a camping chair!
Combine all of these positive features with the fact that this chair can be purchased for between $55-70 dollars, and you have one of the best bargains on the market… The value is extremely high– high quality… low price… great deal!

2. Coleman Oversized Quad Chair with Cooler

Coleman Cooler Quad Portable Camping Chair, Blue
  • Camping chair combines a cOuncey design with a convenient built in...
  • Built in 4 can cooler pouch keeps cold drinks within reach
  • Fully cushioned seat and back provide support and comfort
  • Mesh cup holder and side pocket for quick access to personal items
  • Collapsible, folding design is easy to store and transport

One of the eternal truths that can be counted on in this world is that Coleman is going to continue to make fine camping gear. It’s been proven time and time again, and this awesome chair is no exception. Available for around $30, this chair has way more great features than one should rightfully expect for that price.

Built into the arm is the kind of feature that dreams are made of: a cooler that holds up to four cans! The days get a bit long when you’re camping, and at the end of the night sometimes standing up is the last thing you want to do as you sit around the fire and have a beer– or four. The armrests are also adjustable in height and feature a cup holder just for good measure. It is also cushioned to provide top notch comfort for a camping chair.

The steel frame of this chair ensures that this is going to be a durable seat, and it folds up to be quite compact. It isn’t as compact as some of its competitors, but it has the features to justify that. Weighing less than 9 pounds, it manages to hold around 300, which is not bad at all.

Coleman lives up to their fine reputation once again with this quality chair that works as a faithful companion for sitting during a wide variety of outdoor activities.

3. KingCamp Folding Chair

Priced at roughly $50, this is a unique camping chair that is designed with one thing in mind: comfort. Although it does have a few enticing features for convenience, like a section located around on the back of the chair which acts as a storage pocket, the most appetizing part of this chair is the design. Instead of sitting at a fairly rigid right angle, like many camping chairs, this is designed to be a circular “moon” shape.

Standing on a strong steel frame, which can hold up to 260 pounds, the circular seating area is made of heavy duty polyester, which is densely padded to ensure the finest and most comfortable sitting experience possible.

The sizeable chair folds up surprisingly well and easily becomes quite compact and light for maximum portability. It’s less than 10 pounds in weight, so it is pretty easy to carry around. This makes it an attractive choice for hiking, or more adventurous camping experiences, as well as the more laid back and relaxing excursion. It comes in three different colors, and is unconventional in appearance, in comparison to many standard camping and outdoor chairs.

As a camper, this chair would be difficult to dislike, even though it’s not exactly perfect: the steel isn’t rustproof, so you’ll want to dry it off after any sort of moisture is collected on the metal. For my liking, too, it was a little low to the ground, but that is just my subjective preference. At the end of the day, this is an extremely comfortable and unique camping chair that I’d definitely recommend.

Conclusion?

These are just three of the top camping chairs on the market, but they all bring forth their own unique features that make them worth mentioning as top contenders for the best. In the end, it’s all about what features you prefer, and what suits your needs best. There are heavy, sturdy chairs if you plan to perch in one spot, and lighter ones for the active hikers among us, and then some that embrace versatility and land in between. Still, these three represent great value and you can’t go wrong by picking one of these from the huge selection found in the world of camping & outdoor gear!
